The bluebells are looking lovely under the trees at the moment, with the white flowers of stitchwort often seen dotted in-between.
Our native bluebells have delicate, drooping blooms with tightly curled back edges to the petals. Inside the anthers carrying the pollen are cream-coloured.
These are not to be confused with the Spanish bluebell an altogether more robust looking plant with broader leaves, more upright flower stems and often blue-coloured anthers. Unfortunately these two hybridise very easily and so are better kept away from each other.
